Helping People Back To Work
Dr Mary Wyatt, Occupational Physician provided an analysis of return to work survey results during her ‘Helping People Back To Work’ presentation on Thursday, 8 June 2017.
Dr Wyatt noted that return to work results are lower with psychological injury claims than physical conditions. However when an employer had a positive response to an injury, the return to work rates are 43% higher in physical claims and 52% higher in psychological claims.
Dr Wyatt mentioned that the statistics show that when an employer makes early contact following an injury, the worker returned to work sooner. She also noted that employers with a positive work culture that encourages workers to report injuries, have earlier return to work statistics.
The main message of Dr Wyatt’s presentation is that employers, those in managerial positions and claims managers play a key role in a worker making a timely return to work following an injury.
