Back Injury and Litigation
On Thursday July 21st 2016, Dr Simon Journeaux, Orthopaedic Surgeon, presented to a group of clients representing the insurance, legal and government arena. The event, held at Christies Conference Centre, was on the topic of ‘Back Injury and Litigation’.
Dr Journeaux’s presentation commenced with the anatomy of the back, illustrating characteristics such as verterbrae, ligaments and muscles. He then proceeded to consider the various classifications of ‘Back Pain’ and the nature of accidents and incidents that can affect the back. After underlining the importance of an accurate diagnosis Dr Journeaux then went on to discuss in detail a number of conditions that are major causes of back pain, such as disc protusion, spondylolisthesis and fractures. The presentation concluded with a brief discussion on Abnormal Illness Behaviour, where a person’s incapacity is inconsistent with the injury sustained.
The presentation stimulated a lot of interest and questions and many positive comments were received from our clients about the event. The next installment of mlcoa’s education series, scheduled for August, will be hosted by Dr Derek Lovell, Psychiatrist, on the subject of ‘Chronic Pain From A Psychiatric Perspective’.
